Flashligt 5K

"Thy word a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." -Psalm 119:105

This was the verse for the Flashlight 5K race we participated in as a family on New Year's Eve. The race began at the Methodist church in downtown Lawrenceville and looped the Gwinnett County Justice Center.

I actually participated in this race- my first race ever. We recruited some friends, Derek and Jamie, to join us on our adventure. It was Derek and Jamie's first race too!

Jamie helped me out by pushing Lydia, while I tackled the other two in the double stroller. We were happy to finish at 49 minutes after walking most of the route.

The race began at 6:00pm so it was dark outside. Volunteers held flashlights along the race route which was a really cool idea. Of course the weather had to turn from it's low-60's temps to near 40's just for the race. Fortuntely the guys ran fast enough that they were able to grab the kids from us after our first lap and they didn't have to endure the cold quite as long.

After the race, they had a huge spaghetti dinner and awards ceremony. The kids (and the adults) enjoyed the food. We even had some race winners at our table...
...Derek placed 3rd in his age division and Scott placed 1st in that same age category. Overall, Scott was 12th in the race and ran it in just over 20 minutes- not a personal best for him, but outstanding none the less!!! Both guys were excited to receive their medal which was appropriately attached to a flashlight!!

Hope everyone has a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
